Details That Surround Us

For my final project I decided to shoot textures within our world. I came up with the concept originally before my midterm project, and from there have developed it into what I have now. I began shooting textures of dogs at a park, water and skin from the hot springs, and nature from around Boulder. After submitting the midterm project and getting critique from the class, I took notes and shot differently. A lot of my classmates agreed that my images were too far away from the object or protagonist, and lacked texture, so to improve my photos I shot closer and paid more attention to my angles, lighting, and overall composition. Sometimes shooting this concept got difficult, because when photographing closer, the images could lose feeling or not seem very creative. To counteract that, I played with colors and depth in the editing process to bring more interest to my photographs. When shooting the final, I took images at a park/picnic I attended and photographed the food and drinks as well as my friends. I also shot more images around my apartment complex (down by my pool area) and more images of nature. When editing my pictures, I was very aware of cohesion and placement. I tried to edit my pictures to have the same color scheme and brightened a lot of my photos. When it came to the order and placement, I thought about which images would complement each other, and have at least one similarity or theme between the image before and that followed (this process helped bring my concept together). Overall, I really enjoyed doing this project. I got a variety of images from protagonists, nature and other objects that showcased interesting textures. In our daily lives we can tend to overlook the details that surround us, and it can be important to take a step back to realize and appreciate the small things.
